Invest in Real Housing Solutions

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler and Housing Commissioner Dan Ryan, have taken the lead on a proposal that would ban homelessness in Portland and create six mass camp sites throughout the region which have yet to be identified yet. Portland City Council recently voted to approve $27 million as a “down payment” to this plan that is not data-driven, nor trauma-informed as has been developed without the input of housing and houseless service-providers in our area. But with action, we can stop it. The plan calls for state, county, and metro agencies to pour millions into these camps, while proven solutions like Move-In-Multnomah, safe rest villages, and rent assistance continue to go under-funded. We must take a stand at let our elected leadership know, we need investment in real solutions, not wasting millions to “disappear” homelessness.
